Skin-friendly uses of Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is steam distilled from the beautiful purple flowers of the lavender plant. This essential oil is very gentle on the skin , yet very potent. Lavender has soothing, sedative properties and also has the ability to cleanse and remove toxins. Diluting Lavender Essential Oil with any Carrier Oil of your choice like Jojoba, Olive, Coconut and Carrot oil will help reduce its potency so that it does not cause skin irritations. If you are allergic to lavender oil, its best to not include it in your skin care routine.

There are generally two types of lavender, and both are equally beneficial in terms of their therapeutic value.

  1. Spike Lavender: This variety has broad leaves and a higher content of ceneol and camphor, thereby making it less pleasing. It produces thrice the amount of oil as French Lavender.
  2. French Lavender: This variety has narrower leaves with small dark flowers and is more fragrant and aromatic.
