Collinsonia canadensis is an herbaceous perennial in the mint family. Native to eastern North America, stone root has small, yellow, lemon-scented flowers and a hard, knobby root. The root has a pungent, spicy taste and a long history of use in traditional herbal practices for its beneficial properties. Typical preparations of stone root include liquid extraction or decoction.

The plant is notable for its distinct odor, described as having a lemony scent that is somewhat disagreeable. The root is very hard and heavy, difficult to pulverize or process into powder. The plant was discovered and named after English botanist Peter Collinson. Other common names include citronella, horse balm, and richweed.
